On my birthday in 2023, I invited my friends over to celebrate in a way that felt playful and free — I set up a big canvas, laid out acrylics and spray paints. It was messy, colorful, full of laughter. Later that night, we sat around a fire, and they sang a song for me.
 
I remember feeling so uncomfortable — being seen like that, being loved out loud, was something I wasn’t used to. Part of me wanted to hide. Instead, I closed my eyes, placed my hand on my heart, and made myself stay. I breathed through the discomfort and let the love in. I felt so deeply loved.
 
Shattering Paradigm grew out of that moment, out of the canvas we painted together and the emotions of the evening.
 
The woman in the painting has her eyes closed, her hand over her heart, just like I did. Her face is peaceful, but her head is shattering — breaking apart the old stories that said she had to do everything alone, that she wasn’t worthy of being celebrated.
 
This painting is about letting those old ideas fall away. About staying open and allowing yourself to feel it all. About receiving love — messy, overwhelming, beautiful love — and letting it change you.
